In our second year in Sun Prairie, the community showed us a million reasons to love our new home. Here’s our recap of this year’s Sun Prairie kids triathlon.
“I’m having so much fun!”
~Short course athlete on the bike course
It’s often kids who show adults what they should be focusing on. This lesson applies not only in racing and sports, but in life. One of our volunteers said a young athlete whizzed by on their balance bike and shouted the above quote to him as he waved her through the turnaround. Next time you’re out on your bike, running on a trail, or enjoying a swim, I hope you’ll take a second to find the fun in the moment.
We’re so grateful to have a new home in the Sun Prairie community, where we can partner with amazing businesses like Prairie Athletic Club and TDS. They were dedicated to helping us grow our event to accommodate the nearly 420 kids who participated this year, and to ensure that our event was safe, fun, and high-quality.
A few other cool extras that made our Sun Prairie race unique:
- The mayor of Sun Prairie came out to give everyone a warm welcome to the city! Not too shabby to have a local celebrity start off your race.
- Everyone’s favorite dairy company – Sassy Cow Creamery – brought chocolate milk for all our finishers!
- The PAC Tri Team came out in force and volunteered. Check out the support from this awesome group – and in the middle of racing season, too!
Each race, we tally up the number of athletes from each participating school to help us divide out our race entry fees ($8,600 from this race). Here’s how it shook out this year for our top five schools:
-
Royal Oaks Elementary, Sun Prairie – 35 athletes! They’ll earn our Fittest School trophy to add to their collection.
- Lincoln Elementary – 31 kids
- CH Bird Elementary – 28 kids
- Midvale Elementary – 24 kids
- Northside Elementary, Sun Prairie – 19 kids
We’d like to give a shout-out to our amazing volunteers! Once again, we were down to the wire, and over 40 people signed up to volunteer on race week. We appreciate everyone who took the time to come out and help – you are a difference maker!
We know that there are always opportunities to improve, so we hope you’ll consider taking our event survey. We’re working on how to accommodate the rapid growth of this event within the facility space, and would love your ideas, too.

We’re not done yet this year! Please join us on August 19th in Middleton for our third and final youth triathlon this summer! Registration is open via our website, and volunteers are always needed, too!
From our staff, board, and race day leadership, we are honored that you choose to support us. Thanks for allowing us to share in an important moment in your child’s life.
With gratitude,
