It was a beautiful day in Sun Prairie for our first ever kids tri at Prairie Athletic Club!
For a first year event, I’m personally amazed at how smoothly everything went, which is a testament to our leadership team and the 100 volunteers who came out on Saturday. I would be remiss without mentioning our amazing sponsors, especially our presenting and gold level sponsors, Prairie Athletic Club, TDS, UnityPoint Health – Meriter , The Blue Tree Network, and Eustice, Laffey, Sebranek, and Auby S.C. for making this year’s event possible!
Congratulations to our Fittest School…ROYAL OAKS ELEMENTARY in Sun Prairie with 33 athletes!
Rounding out our top five fittest schools for this inaugural event are:
2. Sacred Hearts School – 19
3. Eastside Elementary – 16
4. Northside and Westside – tie with 13 each
We also debuted our Exercise to Achievement program this summer in Sun Prairie, with sites at Westside Elementary and Prairie Athletic Club. With the help of some amazing coaches at both sites, this program helps kids train for a triathlon while learning healthy habits they can apply inside and outside the classroom, with an emphasis on providing access to athletic opportunities in underserved communities. It’s incredibly important for all children to have access to healthy opportunities and the life skills that accompany athletics, which is a big piece of our mission here at Tri 4 Schools.
We’re also thankful for Sun Prairie EMS, Police, and Public Works, for making this event safe and smooth for all our children. Everyone at the city of Sun Prairie was attentive and great to work with.
Finally, I have to give a special shout-out to our photographers, Carrie Chase of Carrie Chase Photography, and Annie Rubens, as well as Suzanne Blaydes. They both volunteered their time to capture images of each child. You can find these photos on our Facebook page, and links will be posted on our Sun Prairie Triathlon page to view and download them as well. I hope you enjoy seeing those smiles as much as I did!
Please share your ideas with how we can continue to improve the event in the comments or by emailing us (contact@tri4schools.org). We also look forward to seeing all our triathletes at the Middleton triathlon presented by Harbor Athletic Club this summer, or at our Family Mud Run this fall!
