We did it!

These kinds of things don’t happen without hundreds of people working together, so I want to first say that we could not have accomplished the Tri 4 Schools Kids Triathlon without help from volunteers, parents, sponsors, and community members.  I’d like to sincerely thank everyone who helped make this race a success!

I had watched the forecast slowly change from perfect to far from perfect as the week went on, but knew that we had backup plans in place so that we could still have the race go on.  However, when my crew and I arrived on site at 5am, it was beautiful and calm, and I thought maybe, just maybe, we’d end up okay.  Boy, was I wrong!  Right about when people started showing up to check in, the weather checked in too.  I was so proud of my volunteers and all of our athletes and their families who slugged it out in the rain and ended up waiting the hour later for the race to start.

Amazingly, when the storms passed, we ended up with a gorgeous day!  I was so excited when we sang the national anthem (way to go, Gavin! It’s not easy to get all the words right, as Christina Aguilera and countless other celebrities know) and then got the little ones going in the pool!  Watching their smiles and brave jumps into the pool made everything worth it.

I didn’t get to watch much of the race itself, but the things I saw throughout the day made me so proud – kids helping kids, parents cheering, volunteers assisting families, and a positive and patient atmosphere.  That said, I’m hoping that you will all take a few minutes to fill out our post-race survey so we can have feedback on things that we know can be improved (especially with our first event): https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5LQW5ZY.

Additionally, if you have any fun stories from race day you’d like to share, please comment on this blog post or send us an email using our contact form.  We’d love to hear cool stories on how your children did and what their experience with a triathlon was!

I will continue to post updates for next year’s races (yes, I said RACES) as I finalize them.  In the meantime, I hope you will consider letting others know about us, and consider making a donation.  We want to keep our race profits 100% dedicated to schools, and in order to do so, we need donations from individuals and companies to help offset our business and race costs.  You can make a tax-deductible donation here: https://www.tri4schools.org/contact_donate/

Have a safe and fun rest of the summer and enjoy the new school year and my favorite time of year – autumn!
