Have you heard the expression about lightning striking twice? I believe the point is to convey how if something incredible and rare happens once, it probably won’t happen again. Well, I’m one woman who’s desperately hoping I can be just as lucky twice.
You’ve probably seen the posts, tweets, and emails about the Partnership for a Healthier America’s End Childhood Obesity Innovation Challenge (wait, you haven’t? Well, then please vote for us here!). Summary – we have until February 1st to get as many votes for Tri 4 Schools as we can, and the top three videos will earn a trip to Washington, D.C. to present their idea on a national scale at the Building a Healthier Future Summit in March.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and truly, I do not want to miss out. The toughest thing for me is that I cannot do this on my own. One of my main “weaknesses” is that I have a hard time relying on others, and will do whatever I can to accomplish the goals I set for myself. I believe that I can not only get to D.C., but I can WIN this contest (yes, they elect a winner at the summit and that person gets expert consulting advice and $10,000 to turn their idea into a reality). I just need the help of others to get me there. I need you and every vote counts.
Why do I want to win so badly? Well, it’s actually NOT because I like winning or I want the excitement of a free trip. I believe in Tri 4 Schools, I believe that our organization has changed and will continue to change lives, and I believe that lifestyle changes are the key to ending childhood obesity. There’s no one magic tool that will help, it’s a blend of several factors, and I want to be someone leading that change. This opportunity could really open doors for us to expand our series, help get consistent funding, and who knows what else!
I’m asking for your help, because I cannot do this without you. Thank you for your continued support, which amazes and humbles me daily. Please forward the link to friends, coworkers, family members, community groups, anyone that has a Facebook account and would be willing to click and make a difference!
Oh, and in case you’re wondering what the first lightning strike was, we were lucky to receive $5,000 earlier this year from ClifBar as part of their Share Your Epiphany Contest. I submitted an essay on the epiphany I had that led to the creation of Tri 4 Schools, and they picked us as one of their winners. Great company, great mission, and huge supporters of Tri 4 Schools each year.
