Hi everyone,
Recently, I emailed all the families who have participated in multiple T4S events for a few reasons. The first was to thank them for their support, and the second was to get their feedback and ideas on how we can continue to improve. Finally, and here’s the important one, I wanted to see if we’re really making an impact and sending the messages we want to send. I was unsure about the results I’d get, but boy did it succeed with flying colors!
One story in particular made me so excited, I had to share it with you. I’m not going to share the names of the kids or family name just for privacy purposes, but all the other info is true and should inspire you and your family to get out and be active together!
This family attends a local Madison school that struggles with a large population of kids qualifying for free/reduced lunch, so they signed up for our race as a way to help increase the budget for their school’s PE program. It seems like I hear stories every day about athletics and health resources on the chopping block (sigh…). The two children have competed in all three of the triathlons so far, and the real excitement is that it inspired their mom to give triathlons a shot! This summer she completed her first two sprint triathlons, and has plans to sign up for a half next summer, and you guessed it…IRONMAN in 2014. Wow! This is so awesome and gives me goosebumps. Currently, she is participating in a 106 mile bike ride for the JDRF in Death Valley. Talk about taking your responsibility as a healthy role model to the next level! SO proud of this family.
