Dental Visits
Visiting the dentist is an essential part of keeping your child’s teeth healthy. Kids who have regular checkups to the dentist are more likely to develop good dental hygiene as part of their lifestyle. At Dental Health Associates we strive to make visits to the dentist as fun and easy as possible. Below are some facts and tips every parent should know about the importance of regular dental visits for children.
- 6-month cleanings: The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends dental check-ups at least twice a year for children and adults. Regular check-ups are important to keep your kids cavity-free. During these visits we will remove debris and buildup on their teeth, which decreases the risk of tooth decay. After the teeth are cleaned our Dentists perform a full evaluation of your child’s teeth and gums. We then discuss treatment plan options to protect and maintain your child’s teeth. Treatment plans can include fluoride or sealant treatments and orthodontic referrals to one of our orthodontic specialists.
- Fluoride Treatments: After cleaning your child’s teeth we may recommend fluoride treatments as part of their treatment plan. Fluoride can prevent cavities by strengthening teeth that have become weakened, and decreases acid that can erode teeth. It only takes a few minutes for one of our dental professionals to “paint” the clear varnish onto your child’s teeth. After, treatment we ask that you wait at least 30 minutes before they eat or drink to allow their teeth to absorb the fluoride.
- Sealants: The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends sealants for molars starting at age 6. After the teeth are cleaned a sealant liquid is brushed onto the molars crevices. Sealants will protect teeth from decay and fill in the grooves on areas of the teeth that are used for chewing. Sealants reduce the risk of food becoming caught in teeth and decreases the chances of cavities. The entire sealant process is quick, painless, and easy. Your child can eat and go on with their regular routine immediately following treatment.
- Orthodontic Referrals: Orthodontic evaluations may occur as young as age 6 or 7. Many developing orthodontic issues can be intercepted and minimized or even prevented simply through early detection. It is never too early for an evaluation. A referral from your dentist is not necessary to be seen at the Dental Health ortho offices.
